5 Gifts Men give that will Likely Take the Romance Out of their Relationship

Having being in a relationship, I can tell you about five gifts most likely to take the romance out of your relationship. The following gifts are examples of some of the worst types of romantic gifts that a man can buy for his lady. In each of these cases, it would have been better if he’d saved up his pennies and bought her something really worthwhile, such as a beautiful piece of jewellery or that timeless symbol of everlasting love, a diamond. Learn from these terrible examples, so as not to fall into the same trap yourself:

An Apron,Iron, or Anything Suggestive of Housework: Such gifts bring to mind the image of a ball and chain, with the wife chained to the housework while the chauvinistic man puts his feet up. Whether or not that’s what you’re looking for in a relationship, it’s not a wise idea to communicate it so clearly through giving such a gift. Gifts should be luxurious and not suggestive of work. They certainly shouldn’t be a hint that what you’re really looking for is a housewife. Continue...

Plastic Flowers: Yes I know they keep for longer and you could argue that they’re more economical. Then again, another name for economical is a cheap skate! Yes, plastic flowers are stingy. Your girl wants to know that you think she’s worth spending money on, not just as a one off, but for the rest of your relationship. Plastic flowers suggest that once you feel settled the romance will end and your relationship is unlikely to be one of life and vitality.

Fake Jewellery: Don’t buy your girl something fake and try to pass it off as genuine. She is very likely to find out and when she does it won’t just be the authenticity of the piece of jewellery that she’ll be doubting, she’ll be questioning whether you can be trusted. If you want your relationship to work then don’t try to con her, it’ll tell her far more about you than it will about the quality of the gift you gave her.

A Hideous Over-Sized Brooch: They’re really no longer the fashion. Your own mother probably wouldn’t even wear one, although such a gift may have been appreciated by some women of your grandma’s age. Make sure to pay attention to your girl’s taste whenever buying her a gift and if in doubt (particularly for an important gift such as when considering engagement rings) it may be a good idea to seek the opinion of one of her closest friends.

A Wonder-Bra or a Waist Trimmer Belt: Unless she’s specifically asked for one of these you can be fairly certain that such a gift will not go down well. Anything that suggests that you may not be happy with her just as she is, is going to be about as welcome as a slap in the face. Gift giving is not about nagging and it’s certainly not about sending indirect messages about what you consider she can do to improve herself. Don´t waste your time and money buying such unromantic gifts. They won’t be appreciated. If you’re in a relationship that you want to last, then start looking at engagement rings. In doing so, you are likely to find that not only is a diamond a girl’s best friend, but that it can also be a friend to you in helping you to choose the perfect romantic gift. Your relationship will be better because of it.

  1. A fake perfume. That ended my first relationship. After the guy got me a fake Elizabeth Arden perfume on my birthday, I just couldn't bring my self to continue with the relationship.
